Devise a method for safe viewing of the solar eclipse.


Warning: Looking directly at the sun without protection for even a split second can cause permanent damage.

Devise a method to safely view the solar eclipse. Work in teams of 3. Take 45 minutes to complete this challenge. Feel free to go outside to test your prototype as you build it. As you design, consider the collateral effects or impacts of your decisions.

Pay attention to what works and doesn't. Be ready to report on it at the end of the activity.

  • Understand problems and react to them quickly
  • Discuss goals as a part of the design process


This exercise will not be graded. We are doing it to help ease you into experience mapping. The more effort you put into this exercise, the easier it will be for you to jump into the first assignment.
