The Capstone Thesis Document is the most comprehensive venue you have to describe your project and demonstrate the success of your solution. It is a complete summary of your work this semester and will be used to assess your preparedness for the design profession.

The document will be made up of several previous deliverables (justification, landscape analysis, prototyping process) and a final section that showcases the final design solution and its success.

Grading criteria

This project is worth 60% of your overall course grade. It will be evaluated on:

The Problem (10% of project grade)

Is the problem relevant and worth investigating. Is it evident that you understand the problem space?

  • Is your problem space clear and well supported?
  • Are your design criteria supported by research?
  • Is your writing at a high quality?

The Process (10% of project grade)

Did you develop an appropriate solution through a people-centered process?

  • Is it evident that your process centered around your users and whether or not they found the solution desirable?
  • Is it evident that your design decision were driven by feedback from your user?

The Solution (75% of project grade)

Was your solution a success?

  • Does your solution address the design criteria?
  • Does your design illustrate technical mastery and craft?
  • Is your solution novel?

The Documentation (5% of project grade)

  • Did the design of your document enhance the narrative?
  • Is the visual design of the document at a high quality?

Late work

It is critical that you submit your work on time. A late submission will result in grade reduction. Due to the importance of this project, the exact grade reduction will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Generally, I will adhere to a 10% reduction per day.
